Rob Edwards wants a gritty display from AFC Telford

Under-pressure boss Rob Edwards has called on AFC Telford United to show ‘real belief, determination and steely spirit’ at Bradford Park Avenue tomorrow.

The Bucks are third bottom in National League North and desperate to bring a rotten away run to a halt

They have gone eight games without a win on their travels, and lost 4-1 to Avenue at home in August.

“We’re under no illusions, every game is a tough test – especially with where we are in the league,” said Edwards.

“Every game is really difficult. They’ve had a fantastic season.

“The game at the beginning of the season was a game of two halves. They dominated the first half, we dominated the second but didn’t get the rewards.

“What we have to do is make sure we recover and go up there with real belief, determination and steely spirit.

“We need to show grit. If it’s got to be horrible, a grind and not nice, that’s the way it’s got to be.”

Telford are reeling after a 3-0 defeat at Southport on Tuesday night.

Avenue are not on a great run either, having gone six games without a win.

One thing Edwards is aware could come to his side’s advantage is the running track around the Horsfall Stadium pitch.

Games there can prove to be quite stop-start, and said: “It depends on the state of the game and how it goes, really.

“That may be to our benefit away from home, slowing the game down.

“It’ll be a slightly different environment to what we’ve been used to but at the end of the day it’s grass, with a couple of goals.”

This match is one of 11 the Bucks have left to escape the drop.

They are currently three points adrift, on 34 points from 31 games.

Second bottom Gainsborough Trinity are on the same amount of points, having played one more game.

Anyone below 13th will still feel they are in the relegation mix.

“We have to just try to stick that ball into the net,” added Edwards.

“We need those results and they need to come from being clinical, in both boxes.”
