AFC Telford boss Rob Edwards will take an ugly win

Boss Rob Edwards has called on lowly AFC Telford United to ‘do all the ugly things’ as they host promotion-chasing Spennymoor Town.

The Bucks head into tomorrow’s clash third bottom in National league North, three points from safety.

The Moors are seventh, which is the final play-off place, and Edwards said: “They’ve got a lot of good things going for them, a lot of good players.

“They have quite a lot of pace and physicality, and it will be a massive challenge – as all the games will be during the run-in.

“What we have to be is resolute and difficult to beat.

“We just have to be rugged, dogged – do all the ugly things, and do them for the full 90 minutes. It’s just about doing whatever is required.

“How we go out and get the points doesn’t matter, we just need to get them – by doing the basics well.”

Telford have won just two of their nine league games in 2018, but are in good spirits after a 6-0 Shropshire FA Huddersfield Cup win at Market Drayton Town on Tuesday.

Edwards has no injury worries for the visit of Spennymoor but one player he is now without is left-back Ryan Wilson, who has left the club to pursue a career in Australia.

The 25-year-old, son of former Chelsea striker Kevin Wilson, joined the Bucks last September from Matlock Town and made 18 appearances.

On his departure, Edwards said: “It’s a lifestyle thing, he’ll go there to play football and work. It’s a move he’s wanted and you can’t really compete with that.

“We wish him all the best as he was great for us during his time here, he goes with nothing but our best wishes.

“Thankfully we’ve got Bob in, in that position, and he’s a very good player.”

Wilson added: “I would like to thank everyone involved with AFC Telford United for the past seven months for welcoming me into the club.

“It has been a pleasure and privilege playing under a top manager and playing alongside a great bunch of lads.

“I know there is enough quality and hard work in the dressing room to keep the club in the league.”
