AFC Telford's Marcus Dinanga targeting an FC United repeat

Striker Marcus Dinanga is seeking out another double as AFC Telford United host FC United of Manchester.

The sides last met at the New Bucks Head in October in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup.

Dinanga – on loan from Burton Albion until the end of the season – struck twice that day to help the Bucks to a 3-1 victory.

And with Telford four points from safety in National League North going into tomorrow’s clash, the 20-year-old would love a repeat.

“I was hoping that the game at Spennymoor Town on Tuesday was going to be on but obviously it was called off,” said Dinanga.

“We’re all looking forward to the FC United game now and I’ve got a very good feeling going into it.

“We’ve been sharp in training and I’m feeling positive.

“I think we’ll go out there and get the three points as we really need them.”

The two teams have met again since the Cup clash and Telford did not fare so well.

A league encounter at Broadhurst Park in November saw the Bucks take the lead through a superb Henry Cowans strike, but they ended up losing 3-1.

“We’ve played them twice already this season,” said Dinanga.

“They were both tough games, they’re a good team.

“I think this one will be similar to the cup game at home.

“It’ll be difficult, we know that, but I’ve just got a feeling we’ll get the win.

“Hopefully I can do it again, score twice against them. I think I can do it again.”

Dinanga is Telford’s leading scorer in all competitions, with 14.

He previously set himself a target of 30 goals by the end of the term.

And with 14 league games to go, Dinanga is still aiming high.

“I’m still going to stick to that,” he said.

“I’ve got a feeling that a hat-trick is going to come really soon as well.

“And once I’ve got that, I think I can really kick on again.

“I’m sticking with the 30 target and if I fall short and get around 25, I’ll still be happy with that.

“You have got to set yourself high targets, always aim high.

“The main thing, though, that we get the results and stay in this league.”

Dinanga has played on the right of a front three over the past couple of months, having led the line earlier on in the season.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake took on the target man role and once he was let go, Amari Morgan-Smith was brought in and has been playing there.

He has scored twice in his first three outings for the Bucks.

On Morgan-Smith coming into the fold, Dinanga added: “He’s a good player and he works really hard for the team – I like that.

“He gives us some more pace going forward.

“There’s me, Amari, Anthony Dwyer, Elliot Newby and Jordan Murphy here – we’ve all got the pace to cause teams problems.

“Me and Amari are able to switch as well in games – I’ll go through the middle for a bit and he’ll move out wide, with no complaints. We got on with it.

“We’ve got a good understanding which is only going to get better.”
