Jack Rea thanks fans after AFC Telford exit

Midfielder Jack Rea paid tribute to AFC Telford’s supporters after his three-year stay at the club came to an end.

Rea, who was the Bucks longest-serving current player, had not made an appearance since suffering an ankle injury in a 1-0 win at Darlington last August.

In a statement released on Friday morning, the club stated the 25-year-old was being released in order to build match fitness.

But in his own statement posted on Twitter just an hour later Rea – who joined from Bradford Park Avenue in January 2015 - claimed he had been told he was surplus to requirements by Bucks boss Rob Edwards.

Rea said: “Gutted that my time at Telford has come to an end. Would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that has supported me during my three years at the club.

“That goes for management, backroom staff, matchday staff, players (there’s been a few!) and all the fans that have supported me at the NBH and as far away as Lowestoft.

“This year’s been a difficult and frustrating one through injury. I couldn’t have worked harder with the help of Jake Roe to get fit and I have been available for two weeks.

“Unfortunately I wasn’t in the manager’s plans and was told I was surplus to requirements. The previous two years the club has been in a similar position at this time of year and the only way to get out of it is to stick together and work as hard as possible.

“Good luck for the rest of the season, it has been a pleasure.”

Telford currently sit just one point above the drop zone in National League North after a run of just one win in their last ten league matches.
