Elliot Newby confident that AFC Telford can climb table

Winger Elliot Newby is confident AFC Telford United have enough quality to escape danger and challenge for the play-offs in National League North.

A run of just one win in eight league games has seen the Bucks slide to 19th in the table, just a place and a point above the drop zone.

Newby remains convinced they can still be a factor at the top end of the table, in a division where finishing seventh is enough to secure a play-off spot.

But he admits they must end their current four-game winless run sooner rather than later – starting with tonight’s home clash with York City.

"We need to get back to winning ways,” he said. "The postponements we have had recently have not been helpful in that respect, at all.

"I definitely believe we have the quality in the squad to get back there, pushing for those play-off spots.

"I don't think there'll be any problems with that. What we're looking for is that consistency.

"We can do it, we know we can, and it's about keeping the positivity up."

"If we can get a few wins over the next few weeks, that'll be great and get us back to where we want to be."

Rob Edwards’s side are currently 13 points behind seventh-placed Kidderminster Harriers but still have virtually half a season to play.

For Newby, meanwhile, the immediate focus is on reclaiming his place in the starting line-up, after having to make do with a place on the bench in the last three games.

"I have come off the bench and that's the way it goes sometimes, you don't always start,” he said.

"You have to have a good attitude. It's up to you, as a player, to go out there and make an impact – no matter how long you're on the pitch for.

"The aim is to get in the team, stay in the team, and show my quality."
