Rob Edwards needs to cut before he adds to AFC Telford squad

Boss Rob Edwards says AFC Telford United cannot think about making any more signings until they move some players on.

Edwards has 21 players fit and available for selection, with Jack Rea the only one carrying an injury.

It is believed the Bucks would like to bring in a defender, while they also hope to extend Connor Johnson's loan from Wolves.

But when asked if there will be any fresh faces coming in soon, Edwards said: "Well, we've got a lot of players so I wouldn't want to add without, you know, (getting a few out).

"The numbers are fine at the moment so we'll see what happens.

"I think I always say when I'm asked this question is that we are aware of what's out there, but there's no plans, at the moment, to bring anyone else in."

Midfield duo Will Marsh and Louis McGrory have failed to make recent matchday squads.

The club are open to letting the pair out on loan but want to avoid a similar situation to Marsh's loan spell at Evo-Stik Northern Premier side Stourbridge, which saw him limited to a few substitute appearances.

Centre forward Matthew Barnes-Homer is dual-registered with Halesowen Town and has been playing for them over the past few weeks.

Wolves loanee Aaron Simpson and holding midfielder Jon Royle – who have played 16 and 15 times respectively this term – missed out as Telford drew 0-0 with Kidderminster Harriers on Boxing Day.

Neither of them were carrying knocks, they were left out for tactical reasons.

On Royle and Simpson, Edwards said: "Jon's fine, I just picked the same squad – apart from Aaron not being on the bench.

"I thought the lads deserved the opportunity to go again from (the 1-1 draw at) Brackley (Town, last weekend) so it'll be up to Jon, and as he will, to keep fighting and earn his way back in.

"It's the same with everyone. There's tough decisions to be made now.

"It's a side of the game that I don't like, but that's what I am paid to do – I've got to make the decisions and pick a team, pick a squad.

"Some people won't like it, but it's nothing personal. It's just what I feel is the best thing for winning that football match."
