AFC Telford's Ryan Wilson needs to pass tests before return

AFC Telford United left-back Ryan Wilson is undergoing tests this week to determine if he has recovered from a concussion.

The 24-year-old has missed the last two Bucks games with the head injury – and natural right-back Ross White has been filling in on the opposite side.

Boss Rob Edwards says Wilson seems OK, but they are taking all of the necessary precautionary measures before allowing him to return.

He will be monitored closely in the build-up to Saturday’s trip to Spennymoor Town.

On if Wilson – who has made seven appearances for the club since being signed from Matlock Town and been first choice since Jordan Gough’s departure for Chester – will be back for that game, Edwards said: “He has not been allowed to do anything for a couple of weeks so fingers crossed.

“There’ll probably be some tests he will have to do and pass before coming back into training and playing, so we’ll have to see how that one goes. He seems fine himself now though.”

Another player who has been dealing with an injury is Wolves loanee Connor Johnson.

The centre-half missed last weekend’s 4-2 victory against Droylsden in the FA Trophy with a hamstring complaint. He should be fit for the Spennymoor encounter though, and Edwards said: “His power was down slightly on testing with his hamstring.

“It was one that we couldn’t risk – he was feeling it a little bit.

“It wasn’t something we could take a chance on.”

One man who has shone for Telford since returning from a spell on the sidelines is attacking midfielder John Marsden.

The former Shrewsbury Town player – who joined on a permanent basis in the summer after impressing during a loan spell from Stockport County last term – has netted in each of the two games since his return from an ankle injury, which put him out for four matches.

He has managed four goals from 15 appearances this season and Edwards feels his presence is vital.

“He’s a leader, he’s someone with real quality and works very hard for the team as well. He’s an important player for us,” added Edwards.
