The 25-year-old former skipper had a scan last week and the results were positive, with Bucks physio Jake Roe now planning the next course of action.

Rea has not played since picking up the injury in the 1-0 win at Darlington on August 19.

Telford boss Rob Edwards said: “We are hopeful it won’t be a few months, we are hoping we’ll be getting him back sooner than that.

“It may need an injection, rather than an operation – which is good.

“We’ll just have to keep monitoring it and see how it goes, but he won’t be back just yet”

Initially thought to be a minor knock, Rea – who is the club’s current longest-serving player, having joined in January 2015 – has also been to see a specialist recently.

Meanwhile, skipper Shane Sutton trained on Tuesday following a knee injury and is in line to return to action as Telford head to Hereford in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Louis McGrory is struggling with a foot injury though and did not train.

Jordan Lussey (groin) did not train either, but that was pre-planned.

Edwards added: “Shane trained on Tuesday night so we are hopeful in terms of him being back for Saturday.

“Jordan did not train but we knew he wouldn’t. We were giving him a bit more rest and we’re still hopeful that he can play at the weekend.

“Louis took a whack after coming on (as Telford drew 1-1 with Southport on) Saturday, kicking the bottom of someone’s foot.

“It’s a sore one and he didn’t train so we will see how he does.

“John Marsden did not train either. His ankle injury is longer-term and we were not expecting him to be involved against Hereford.”
