The 25-year-old travelled from his home in Northwich to Wolves’ Compton Park training complex, which the Bucks also use for sessions on Monday and Friday afternoons, to undergo the scan.

It is the second one that the former skipper has had since picking up the injury in a 1-0 win at Darlington on August 19 – the first revealing an issue with the joint.

Initially thought to be a minor knock, Rea – who is the club’s current longest-serving player, having joined in January 2015 – has also been to see a specialist recently .

He has been sat in the stand on matchdays and working closely with Telford physio Jake Roe to try to solve the problem.

“We are still waiting for the scan results but hopefully it is good news,” said Roe.

Skipper Shane Sutton is making good progress with his knee injury and could return at Hereford in the FA Cup first round next weekend.
