We have done our homework, says AFC Telford boss Rob Edwards

Rob Edwards insists AFC Telford United have done plenty of homework on tomorrow’s opponents Boston United.

The Bucks fared badly against the Pilgrims last season – losing 2-1 at home and then 3-0 away.

Adam Murray’s side are 18th in the National League North table having picked up 12 points from 12 games.

“They are an interesting team,” said Edwards.

“They were around the play-offs and they have had a of an up-and-down season so far.”

Boston recently took Haughmond in the FA Cup.

They drew 1-1 at York Street in the second qualifying round, with the Pilgrims winning the replay 5-0.

Telford chief scout Luke Fogarty recently watched them win 2-0 against AFC Mansfield in the Cup.

“They scored five the other week against Haughmond in the Cup, after drawing,” said Edwards.

“We have had them watched, done our own research, and the report came through which we have been going over.

“I say it all the time, every game is tough – they all pose different challenges.

“Boston have been in all their games and they’ve got goals in them as well.”

Boston have former Wolves winger Ashley Hemmings in their ranks.

Ex-Newport County midfielder Adam Chapman is one of their key players while striker Kabongo Tshimanga, who used to play for MK Dons, has impressed recently.

“We are not sure of a formation for them at the moment – they flick between a 4-4-2 and 4-3-3,” said Edwards.

“We’ll have a look but we will be prepared.

“I am looking forward to the game. It is three home wins in a row now and we want to build on that.”

The Pilgrims will be unsure about what formation Edwards will use too.

The Bucks have mainly used a 3-5-2 system under his management but have switched to a 4-3-1-2 in recent outings.

On whether the new formation will be used for this game, Edwards did not give much away and said: “The principles of our play will remain the same.

“Formations can change for what we deem suitable for the opposition and what we have available.

“We might use it at the weekend, we might not. It is good we have got options.”

Telford are 16th in the table and this clash and the following league game at rock-bottom North Ferriby United could be seen as a good opportunity to claim back-to-back wins.

Edwards is not underestimating Boston, though, and added: “Every game is an opportunity to gain some momentum.

“We can’t look past Saturday. If we take our eye off the ball, we’ll slip up.”

The Bucks have full-back Ryan Wilson back after he was cup-tied for the two games against Stafford Rangers.

Centre-half Aaron Hayden is starting a three-match suspension, though, and full-back Aaron Simpson (hamstring) and midfielder Jack Rea (ankle) are not fit enough for this encounter.
