AFC Telford boss Rob Edwards happy to seal Jordan Murphy deal

Boss Rob Edwards has expressed his delight after AFC Telford United’s signing of former Walsall striker Jordan Murphy, adding: “He has really good attributes.”

The 21-year-old was signed by the Bucks yesterday and is set to be involved as they take on Harrogate Town at home today.

He made two appearances for the Saddlers before being released in 2016 and has had spells at Worcester City and Kidderminster Harriers in National League North.

Murphy left Stourbridge before being swiftly snapped up by Telford, and Edwards said: “We are pleased to have got the deal done.

“We became aware of him leaving Stourbridge and wanted to bring him in. He has really good attributes.

“He is a goalscorer and he has proved that at this level.”

Murphy scored seven league goals for Worcester last term and can play as a number nine or out wide.

He is able to fit in with the Bucks’ training schedule – four times a week, depending on midweek games, using Wolves’ Compton Park training complex.

Marcus Dinanga, Anthony Dwyer and Matthew Barnes-Homer, who is currently nursing a hamstring injury, are the other forwards he is set to compete against for a starting berth.

Edwards added: “He fits the bill – young, hungry, he can work with us all week and he is looking to learn and looking to improve.

“He is striving to make it back into professional football so hopefully he can help us and we can help him.

"You need options there as there will be times where you need to make a change.

“It keeps the competition for places high and keeps things fresh.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Joe Fitzpatrick has left the club to join Hednesford Town, managed by former Telford duo Rob Smith and Larry Chambers.

The 20-year-old found opportunities hard to come by under Edwards, making just one appearance this season and then being left out of recent matchday squads.

Edwards said: “He is a great lad, very talented, but we just couldn’t guarantee him game time.

“I’m never going to stand in the way of a young player looking to go and get more football.”
