The Bucks got the new National League North campaign under way with a 1-0 victory at York City, who are the bookmakers' second favourites for promotion, on Saturday.

Matthew Barnes-Homer struck on the stroke of half-time at Bootham Crescent, while Jas Singh pulled off some stunning saves and the defence made several important blocks .

After the final whistle, the 149 travelling Telford supporters rapturously applauded the squad, who returned the favour.

Edwards said: "The fans that travelled, by the way, that was amazing.

"The reception they gave the lads at the end – they fed off each other.

"The lads showed them commitment and desire, and the fans bounced off it and loved it.

"Everyone is in it together. They are just as important as every one of the players. Full credit to them."

Telford were set up in a 3-4-2-1 formation on Saturday. Edwards had set up that way over pre-season and on how the players have adjusted to it, he said: "I'm not asking the players to do anything that they can't do.

"We try to be clear and concise with our messages and we won't complicate it.

"Playing that way, it allows us to be solid in numbers at the back as well.

"On Saturday, we had to adjust slightly and become more of a five than a three at the back, to deal with the long ball – we needed people to cover more."

It was a high-octane display, with Telford doing a lot of pressing high up the pitch.

On that approach and what he would like to see for the visit of Brackley Town tomorrow night at the New Bucks Head, Edwards added: "We want legs in the team, but it's important we have the right blend.

"You need players who have been there and done it but, with the way I want to work, we need that energy and enthusiasm.

"We can't get carried away. It would be great to settle down a bit more in possession and catch that breather when we can, and manage the game with the ball.

"But if they give us that effort, everyone will be delighted."
