The 21-year-old winger signed for the Bucks this summer from Barrow and impressed over pre-season.

Keen to attack his marker and get shots and crosses off, the Bolton Wanderers youth product was due to be involved in Telford’s National League North opener at York City today.

On how he has settled in at his new club under Rob Edwards, Newby said: “I feel great, and I’m sure a lot of the lads are the same,

“We have had a good pre-season, playing lots of different teams and a lot of good sessions together.”

“It seems like everything is sort of set, really.”

Newby impressed in the division during a loan spell at Altrincham last year, and the Bucks have high hopes for him.

He is looking to excite supporters and said: “That’s what I want to be and what I’m aiming to be, to be that spark for the team.

“If we need a goal or a chance to be created, I want to try to do that.

“Last year, when I was on loan at Altrincham, we were in a situation where we weren’t winning many games.

“Every man had to give double, basically, and that’s the way it should be, really.

“I don’t want to be seen as a luxury player either. I don’t want to be seen as somebody that just wants the ball.”

“I want to be seen as someone who is going to fight for the team and work as hard as I can.”

Meanwhile, boss Edwards believes winger Chekaine Steele is not too far way from being fit enough to feature.

Another new summer signing, from Worcester City, he did not play over pre-season because of a hamstring injury.

Edwards said: “He’s a proper athlete. He is a power athlete.

“I wouldn’t like to put a time on it but I don’t think he is too far away.”
