Dave Hibbert: Staying up would be a career high

Dave Hibbert admits keeping AFC Telford in National North will rank alongside the biggest achievements in his career.

Telford go into Saturday's trip to North Ferriby three points clear of the drop zone with four games left after Worcester City did them a favour by beating Hednesford 1-0 on Tuesday.

In a career which has seen him return to the game playing part-time after retiring for three years following a serious knee injury, 30-year-old Hibbert twice finished Shrewsbury Town's top scorer and was their player of the year, while he was the first scorer at Greenhous Meadow.

He also played in the Championship with Preston, was part of Peterborough's League One promotion-winning squad and is now coaching in Stoke City's academy.

But after being bottom for most of the campaign and with financial problems off the field, Hibbert says clinching survival with Telford would equal anything he has done.

"If we do it, with all that's gone on and what we've had to put up with, personally it will probably be one of my biggest achievements," said Hibbert.

"It would be massive and I'm hoping I can continue to play my part in it."

Hibbert is Telford's only contracted player for next season. And he has pledged to do all he can to help the club to be in a better place.

"Physically, I'm not the same as I used to be, but I give everything to do something I love and to help the club," he said.

Meanwhile, team-mate Graham Hutchison says Telford must focus on themselves and not concern themselves with what's happening elsewhere.

FC United of Manchester can all but clinch safety with victory over Stalybridge on Saturday, while Worcester can go a long way towards theirs if they win at Bradford Park Avenue – and do the Bucks another favour.

Hutchison said: "Teams are beating sides they shouldn't and others are losing to clubs they should be beating. It's all about us focusing on ourselves and trying to do what we need to do."
