Sam Allardyce: Stay up to keep loan stars

Boss Sam Allardyce believes Okay Yokuslu and Mbaye Diagne will only stay with Albion if they retain their Premier League status.

The two players joined the Baggies on loan last month from Celta Vigo and Galatasaray respectively.

Along with fellow January recruits Robert Snodgrass and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, they have had a huge impact on Allardyce’s side.

But while the duo are rapidly becoming fan favourites, Allardyce believes it’s unlikely they will be with the Baggies next season if they are not in the Premier League.

“Yes I’d say that,” Allardyce said when asked if he thinks they will only stay if Albion survive. “They want to play in the Premier League that is why they are here.

“I have to give them great credit for taking the chance – to leave the clubs they are at for a side struggling in the Premier League shows character.

“But everybody wants to play in the Premier League. And they see it as an opportunity to come to the big stage and show what they can do.”
