Martinez pulled off a string of impressive saves to earn sluggish Villa a 0-0 draw at the Amex Stadium.

The Argentine has registered four shutouts in his last six matches and Mings said: “Emi was in great form, as he has been all season.

“He is such an honest hard-worker and it has certainly rubbed off on the players in front of him to want to keep the ball out of the net.

“He has been a great addition to our backline. Again on Saturday you saw how influential he has been. He came up with some really big saves.”

The point was enough to move Dean Smith’s team above Tottenham and up to eighth in the Premier League table but both the boss and his players expressed disappointment in the performance.

Villa are assessing Matty Cash after the right-back was forced off with a hamstring injury during the second half of Saturday’s game.
