The Uppington men leapfrogged their rivals to get off the bottom of the Shropshire League Premier Division and are now revved up for Saturday's visit of Ludlow.

Wroxeter posted 221, Richard Evason making 91 off 87 balls – 15 fours and three sixes – and Ed Davies chipping in with 40 despite 4-47 from Calum Marsh.

Seamers Simon Jones (4-26) and Dan Harris (2-36) then got through the Cound top order before the captain's 4-46 finished them off.

Cound's 113 meant a comprehensive 108-run victory for the visitors – a win gained so efficiently that one was left wondering why the Grove have won only one other league fixture this season.

Harris said: "It was a really dogged performance. Everyone stuck in with the bat. It's a small ground and at one stage we were thinking about 300.

"Our seamers Dan and Simon knocked the top order out before we brought the spinners on and that made the difference."

Although the number of clubs to be relegated remains unknown, depending on who comes down from the Birmingham League, the captain has a clear target.

He said: "We have got to get out of the bottom two. It was a top performance and one that has given us a real lifeline.

"Instead of being 40 points adrift of the third-bottom team, it's now 19 points. We're off the bottom and that's a big pyschological lift."

Wroxeter host Ludlow with some wind in their sails, adding: "There's no reason why we can't get a positive result."

Meanwhile, Reman Services will be hoping a stunning knock from Aussie teenager Connor Dudley proves the catalyst to get them going.

Dudley struck a glorious 185 in last weekend's 79-run home win for Reman over local rivals Bomere Heath. which followed three straight defeats.

Reman, who will head to St Georges on Saturday in good spirits, opted to bat first on an inviting Albert Road pitch and rattled up 338-7.

South Australian Dudley, at No 3, hit 10 towering sixes and no fewer than 23 boundaries. Jamie Wear offered support with 46.

With Dudley in such form it was hard work for the Bomere bowlers although Henry Dawson plugged away to take 3-81.

Ian Gillespie (72) and visiting skipper Chris Edenborough (69) tried to spark a successful chase.

But Bomere, who host Wem on Saturday, were eventually removed for 259, Dominic Bradburne taking 3-61 and Alex Johnson 3-71.

The game of the day on Saturday will see the top two Newport and Frankton go head to head at Audley Avenue.

Newport, helped by yet another century from Indian star Rajat Bhatia, took over in pole position last weekend.

While they were beating Broseley by 61 runs, long-time table-toppers Frankton were suffering a rare defeat, losing by seven wickets at Quatt.

Thomas Welti (35) and Mark Lammie (32) were the main contributors as Frankton were sent back for 145.

Welti then took 3-40 but Quatt, held together by an unbeaten 52 from Shropshire batsman Adrian Evans, reached the winning post at 149-3 in the 33rd over.

Ludlow's James Gerritse starred in a fascinating home draw against St Georges. He took 5-56 after the visitors were put in and posted 259-9 built around Tylor Trenoweth's 60.

Jack Griffiths led the chase with 41, but Chris Miller (4-56) went through the lower order and it looked all up for the home team when the ninth wicket fell at 184.

But Louis Watkins held on to make 38 not out, with No 11 Gerritse unbeaten on 21.
