Put your house on rising star Ammir Fiaz

And tomorrow, Wellington boxer Ammir Fiaz makes his bow in the ring as a professional against seasoned Spaniard Christian Hoskin Gomez at Villa Park.

Fiaz has worked at Imperial Properties in Wellington for more than three years, but his real love is boxing.

The 22-year-old middleweight is Midlands and Yorkshire champion and top-three ranked in the country as an amateur.

But tomorrow’s fight against Gomez is the start of a new journey.

He said: “I get up at 5.30am to train, go to the office at 8.45am, work until six then go to the gym to train and spar.

“For months, I’ve been ‘wake up, train, work, eat, train, sleep’.”

Fiaz, who has won 61 of 74 amateur fights, has boxed for 10 years, mostly under the stewardship of dad Mo Fiaz, head coach at Wellington Boxing Academy, as well as former WBC super-middleweight champion and Olympic bronze medalist Richie Woodhall.

He also trains at Eastside Amateur Boxing Club in Birmingham under Spencer McCracken, brother of Anthony Joshua’s coach Rob.

Older brother Aroon is also a pro.

The slick, orthodox, 6ft boxer has shipped 160 tickets for Saturday’s showpiece, on the bill of Villa Park’s ‘November to Remember’ card, marking fallen heroes.

He added: “I’ve been there and done that as an amateur. This is one of the biggest fights of my life, it’s the start of a journey that could lead to something huge.

“If it does go somewhere with the promoters and managers then I’d have to knock work on the head, but their support has been great.”
