The 25-year-old southpaw fought his way to a unanimous points verdict over Swindon’s Ryan Martin to claim the belt in front of the Channel 5 cameras at the Leicester Arena on Saturday night.

Morris was overjoyed with his victory and put the win down to sheer determination.

“It was a hard fight and respect to him,” said Morris, who will now be looking at a possible shot at the English welterweight title.

“We knew he was going to be tricky and technical. It was one of those ones where will beat skill. I wanted it, I didn’t want to lose. No one can take it away from me, I’m an IBO champion.”

Morris will now take a well-earned break before looking at his options in the new year.

“It’s been a great camp,” he added, “We had six weeks notice and I wasn’t in training beforehand. It’s just been constant graft. I can’t ask for anything more going into Christmas and I will take a rest now.”
