The Wrockites have enjoyed an excellent start to the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier League season and that seemed set to continue when they raced into a 4-0 lead.

But Hanwood, who so often struggle on the road, claimed seven games in a row to hold an aggregate lead by three.

However, Steve Roberts defeated Mark Shore 21-18 at No.12 to leave the teams level at 214-214 with Wood picking up six points and Hanwood nine.

“It was a difficult one to take,” admitted Clee. “We were 4-0 up but then Steve did well in the end to get us the draw.

“We have had a good start to the year so we were due a below-par result, but the Hanwood lads played it well so fair play to them. I don’t think many teams will come here and go away with as many points as they did – all credit to them.”

While the Wrockites slipped a place to third, Clee is delighted with how things have gone in the opening eight matches.

“It’s nice to be up around the top places for a change rather than the other end,” he added. “Castlefields, Newport and Bayley are all very good sides and if we are in and around them come the end of the season we will be doing well.”

Bylet went close to gaining an away victory at a green they know well but were edged out 209-201 at Bowring, but did pick up an excellent six winners.

Tim Ealey was the star man with a 21-9 victory over Aaron King, while Jamie King’s 21-7 over Jason Groom was the highlight for the hosts.

Wayne Rogers and Ben Allen were both 21-7 winners for Burway as they registered a 215-191 success at home to Chester Road.

Paul Latham was a 21-10 victor, one of five winners for the Roaders.

Wem USC are enjoying a much better season and picked up 10 points from a 230-191 victory over Ifton. Scott Thomas (21-5) had Wem’s best result, while Craig Griffiths (21-11) was the pick for Ifton.
