The Llangollen RAFA bowler came out on top of a superb 28 entries on Sunday, with league competition secretary Trevor Roberts leading the accolades.

“A fantastic day’s bowling ending in a truly great final,” was the Roberts verdict as Edwards edged out Geraint Edwards of Ceiriog Valley in the crunch tie. “After a slow start, home bowler Adrian took advantage of his green knowledge to build what we all assumed was a match winning lead at 19-11.

“Geraint, however, had other thoughts, and after getting back in with a brilliant side toucher, he went on a run with the jack to take a 20-19 lead.

“He again bowled a very good couple of woods to lie game-on – only for Adrian to play into the head and claim the two that he needed for the game and title.

“The two semi-finals were also very good games, Adrian defeating team-mate Mike Callaghan 21-19, while Geraint beat Weston Rhyn’s Sue Taylor (winner of the veterans title in 2015) 21-17.”
