Roy Crowther crowned champion

Unbeatable Roy Crowther is steadily building a record that may never been beaten in the Flowfit Ludlow League.

The popular Burway bowler has won the league’s Veterans Merit for the fourth time in its five-year existence.

Crowther’s latest success came on Saturday at Cleobury Mortimer when he emerged from 16 entrants on a sunny afternoon.

“The final was a battle of the Roys – Crowther against Roy Broome of the host club,” said league chief Steve Burmingham.

“Broome again started on -2 and Crowther soon raced into an 11-5 lead.

“Broome battled and got it back to being 14-11 down, but Crowther was soon in command again to win 21-14 to take the title for the fourth time.”

There was a repeat of last year’s final in the quarter-finals with Crowther getting his revenge on Graham Lane by beating him 21-16 before he got past Graham’s brother and fellow Ludlow Castle man, Colin Lane, 21-12 in the last four.

“Semi-final No.1 had seen Mortimer’s Roy Broome run out a convincing 21-10 victor over Craven Arms’ Lillian Payne,” said Burmingham.
