Wrockites knock out Tanners champions
Wrockwardine Wood claimed the scalp of the Tanners Shropshire League champions and current leaders to reach the quarter-finals of the Shropshire Cup.
The Wrockites came through the closest tie of the second round on a night when fellow Telford club Hadley USC saw off Shropshire Cup holders Prince of Wales Hotel. Wrockwardine edged out Elephant & Castle by just seven chalks at Bridgewater, Ian Delves winning 21-7 in the middle four before single figure wins for Louise Cotton and Allan Gaut at the back sealed victory over the Shawbury giants.
Last year’s inaugural winners Prince Hotel had just two winners out of 12 as they lost to Molson Coors Mid Shropshire League pacesetters Hadley USC by 46 at Adderley
Hadley captain Jim Fletcher said: “The boys got to grips with a weighty green and bowled it well. Not picking out any individuals as they all played very well – we win as a team or lose as a team.”
