Four Tanners Shropshire League clubs hold the key to potential upsets in tonight’s second round of the KGJ Insurance County Cup.

Champions Elephant & Castle, Shropshire Cup holders Prince of Wales Hotel, Battlefield and Old Shrewsbury all face Premier League opponents at neutral venues (7pm) aiming for a place in the quarter-finals.

Battlefield look to have the best chance as they head to Trench take on a Chester Road team that is joint bottom of the Premier after just three wins from their first 10 league games.

Old Shrewsbury face County Cup holders Bowring at District (front green), Prince take on St Georges at nearby Bridgwater (small green) while E&C Shawbury meet Meole Brace at Oxon.

Tie of the round, featuring record winners Castlefields against Newport, has been switched to Calverhall from Hodnet and the other all Premier clashes are Hanmer v Wrockwardine Wood at Greenfields No.1; Bylet v Hanwood at Edgmond; Sir John Bayley v Ifton at Hadnall.

Also, it looks like being a marathon quest to be crowned the new junior champion of the Tanners Shropshire League tomorrow. The league’s new competition chief Graeme Wornell had already taken 11 entries by the weekend in the countdown to the under-18 competition at Shrewsbury club Telepost.

And he is still accepting names on 07974 623822 and will take them up until 6.15pm tomorrow ahead of making the draw for the free-to-enter event.

The winner will receive the Harold Kaye Trophy and, assuming he or she is a member of the county junior squad, plenty of extra practice for Sunday’s Drakes Pride crunch clash with Warwick & Worcester.
