One of Shropshire’s three flat green bowls clubs has declared its open day to try and attract new members a big success.

Lilleshall Hall held the free session at their base in the National Sports Centre as part of a pre-season recruitment drive – and were more than happy with the response.

“The club was delighted with the success of its open day, when members of the public were invited to try their hand at flat green bowling, helped by members of the club,” said spokeswoman Liz Caird.

“There are club sessions on Thursdays afternoons (2.30pm start) and we hope that all our visitors will join us again for another session of bowling.”

Twenty four hours after the open day, Lilleshall played their first friendly match of the season, against Black Country.

“This is a fixture of many years standing and it is always a pleasure to welcome back old friends. The result was a win for Lilleshall, 76 shots to 49,” added Caird.

Lillshall were due to travel to take on Newtown at the weekend and have another away match, against Llansantffraid, on Saturday.
