Hanwood’s Wellings and Reeves (Sir John Bayley) come in for the qualifying group two match on Sunday, June 4, as Shropshire look to build on a superb 47-shot opening victory over big guns Warwick & Worcester. Wellings, the 2009 winner of the Shropshire Junior Merit, and Reeves are joined by the recalled Peter Grimston (St Georges) as selectors Mick Jones and Mark Thomas make three changes for the showdown with the neighbours.

Reeves’ Bayley team-mate Alex Jones is unavailable while another Bayley Boy, Spencer Clarke, and Stuart Rutter of Wrockwardine Wood are left out.

Wellings will play at No.7 in the home leg at Pontesbury while Reeves and Grimston head to the artificial surface in the North Wales village of Betws-yn-Rhos, inland from Abergele.

“Ashley has performed well in the last two Midland Alliances, winning his three games at Donnington Wood (in April), as did Paul Reeves,” explained Jones.
