AFC Telford's tricky new signing can make an immediate impact
AFC Telford United manager Kevin Wilkin is hoping new signing ‘tricky’ Lewis Trickett will have an immediate impact on his side’s attacking play.
The 19-year-old winger joined the Bucks on loan from Accrington Stanley last week, where he has established himself as a highly-thought-of youngster with some impressive performances in the EFL Trophy.
And after the recent departures of Ricardo Dinanga and Jakub Kruszynski, the Bucks boss is keen to see his new forward take his chance in the team when it comes.
“They say Trickett by name, tricky by nature, that’s what we’ve been told by his assistant manager at Accrington,” Wilkin revealed. “He’s a Northern Ireland under-19 international and he’s played for Accrington’s first team. He’s scored in the EFL Trophy against Harrogate too, so he gives us another option down either wing or in the 10 role.
“He’s got a different skillset to someone like Ricardo, and he’s an option down either wing which we’ve been short on options for recently.
“Wingers on their day will be the best player on the pitch, but then the next week can be a little bit anonymous, and that’s where we find ourselves with our young players at the moment.
“It’s nice to have options available to you so we can make positive changes if we need to, and hopefully he can come here and flourish and just enjoy his time here.”
The signing comes at an important time for Telford, who after a number of injury concerns are close to having a full squad of players available again.
Long-term absentees Byron Moore and Steffan Jones are set to return to training next week, while Matty Stenson, Remi Walker and Sam Whittall are being slowly managed back to full fitness.
