Veteran midfielder hailed by AFC Telford boss
Kevin Wilkin has heaped praise on AFC Telford United veteran Jimmy Armson for continuing to deliver for his manager in difficult circumstances.
The 34-year-old midfielder, who played under the Bucks boss for seven seasons at Nuneaton Borough and six seasons at Brackley before joining Telford last summer, netted his ninth goal of the season in last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Bishop’s Stortford.
The Bucks have not lost any of the five games Armson has scored in this season, and Wilkin is pleased with the contributions of his right-hand man after he endured a difficult start to life at the club.
“His appearances were maybe a bit stop-start, and I know he didn’t feature as regularly as he might have liked, but I know what Jimmy’s capable of and he’s always been good to rely on to get a goal,” Wilkin said. “He arrives at good moments and has always had a good understanding of that side of the game throughout his career, he always times his runs really well.”
He added: “Jimmy in step two for me has been known to score 25 or 30 goals in a season, so we know what he’s capable of.
“His early spell with me at Brackley was fantastic, and he’s slightly moved on and adapted his game since then as you have to.
“If you get him in and around the penalty area he’s capable of making things happen.
“He’s not an out-and-out striker as such, but he’s got a keen eye for goal and that’s been the case throughout his career. He’s got good feet for a big guy and it’s important to have other players weighing in with goals, not just Matty Stenson.”
