Salop fell to their second defeat of the new boss's tenure on Saturday as they were humbled 4-1 at Cambridge against their fellow relegation rivals.
After the weekend's results, Town remain bottom of the League One table, and they are now eight points adrift of safety.
Things are going against Shrewsbury, and Ainsworth wants to see who out of his playing squad is going to stand up and be counted as they try to turn around their form.
"I would like some winners and some leaders to emerge from the group," Ainsworth said. "When you are in a tough place, a lot of people feel sorry for themselves and go inside of themselves and go a little bit insular.
