AFC Telford United boss Kevin Wilkin revealed that the club are exploring a potential move to a permanent training ground.

Despite boasting one of the best stadiums in non-league, Telford are forced to train at various venues across Shropshire, including Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

And with the club keen to develop itself on and off the pitch, Wilkin believes a training base that the club can call its own will really allow the Bucks to kick on.

“We don’t have our own training facilities, and we’re having to hire different ones that don’t necessarily have all the bits and pieces that I’d really want to help bring the group together,” the Telford boss explained. “It would help speed up that process and it is a real challenge, and I’m a big believer that once the club gets its own training ground it will really take off.”

Wilkin added: "There’s no doubt about that for me, and it’s something that the club is lacking.

“I know the people behind the scenes are working really hard at it, but it’s a challenge for us at the moment.”

Under Kevin Wilkin, Telford have seen mass changes on the field, with just two of the squad he inherited in 2022 still at the club.

And the former Brackley and Wrexham boss admitted that the nomadic nature of Telford’s training sessions has proved an unwelcome challenge for him at the club.

“Having a place that we can call home, where we can train and share some food together, all those bits and pieces really accelerate the team-building process,” Wilkin said. “At the other clubs that I’ve been at we always had that, sharing time on and off the field, and it’s something that’s really important to me.

“That more than anything has probably been the biggest challenge for me here.”
