The 24-year-old, who plays professionally in London for Surbiton HC, will contest in his first Commonwealth Games next month as England face India, Malaysia, Pakistan and Wales.

The team, under the supervision of head coach Bobby Crutchley, won bronze in Glasgow at the event four years ago.

Goodfield played a key role as England qualified for the 2018 Hockey World Cup in India by finishing third in last year’s Hero Hockey World League.

Former Thomas Telford student Goodfield has represented England at under-16, under-18 and under-21 level.

Crutchley said: “We couldn’t be more excited. There is a lot of interest in the sport and to joining up with Team England.”

“As a squad we have been training very hard and very well and we are very much looking forward to building on what we achieved in 2017.”

England will partake in a 10-day preparation camp in Brisbane ahead of heading to the Gold Coast.
