Ben Simons thrilled with Olympic debut

Shropshire bobsledder Ben Simons insisted he enjoyed every second of his Olympic debut after being part of the British No.2 four-man crew that finished 19th.

Simons, a Welsh international sprinter from Broseley, only started in the sport a few years ago but seized his moment in Sochi.

He provided the start line fire power for pilot Lamin Deen as they delivered on their target of improving their performance from last year's World Championships, where they were 23rd.

"Becoming an Olympian is something I've dreamed about since I was a kid and to finally achieve that dream and ambition, feels just wonderful," he said.

"This is a young crew and we're getting quicker and it takes time in bobsleigh, you don't just throw a team together overnight and be fast.

"We feel we've got better with every run in training and now in competition.

"We know we can push quick at the start and Lamin is only getting better as a driver and the sled is only getting quicker."

The second British bobsleigh team only qualified for Sochi last weekend after earning enough points from their final World Cup race in Austria.

And Simons, 27, is hoping to make a return to the track after Sochi and possibly qualify for this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
