Shropshire's Ben Simons in Great Britain's bobsleigh team for Winter Olympics

Shropshire's Ben Simons was today confirmed as a member of Great Britain's bobsleigh team for next month's Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The 27-year-old from Broseley was named in the 'GBR2' four-man team to compete in Russia.

Simons said: "It means the world to me to be selected to compete for Team GB at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

"It has been a tough journey, it came down to the last weekend of competition to qualify and now I am just looking forward to heading to Sochi and competing.

"The Olympics are the pinnacle of an athlete's career."

Simons' team will also include Londoner Lamin Deen, aged 32, as pilot, John Baines of Middlesbrough, 28, and sprinter Craig Pickering who competed for Britain at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
