Chris Ball was today closing on a second Shropshire bowls triumph in five years in the the Autumn Waterloo in Blackpool.

The St Georges stalwart was taking on Steve Morrey of Crewe – the 21-17 conqueror of British No 1 Graeme Wilson yesterday – in this morning's quarter-finals.

Ball beat Potteries star Dean Ferris 21-14 in the last 16 to book his ticket to finals day, aiming to match the 2006 title triumph of Andy Moss of Chester Road.
