AFC Telford United boss Andy Sinton plans to cast an eye over former Wolves star Adam Proudlock in tonight's friendly with Chasetown.

The Bucks boss confirmed Proudlock, 29, who was linked with a summer move to Midland Alliance side Bridgnorth Town, will start the match.

And if the striker impresses it could earn him a contract at the New Bucks Head.

Sinton said: "He brings a heck of a lot. He's been playing League football up until last season so he's a good player.

"We will give him 45 minutes or maybe an hour tonight and see how he gets on.

"It gives us the chance to have a look at him in a game and we'll take it from there."

Newport-based Proudlock has been without a club since his release by Grimsby Town in the summer following the Mariners relegation to the Conference.

And Sinton added that the former Sheffield Wednesday and Stockport County striker was short on match fitness.

He said: "He has been training himself but he hasn't done what you would call pre-season training and he certainly hasn't played any games.

"He has been training with us for the past week and he lives in the area but he just needs to get himself fit and get match-sharp."

Meanwhile, Sinton said he hoped tonight's friendly would be one of many throughout the season.

He said: "Hopefully I can arrange a few more of these games because I want to make sure players stay fit.

"It gives some of the fringe players a chance to get some minutes on the pitch and stay match fit."

One man who will not feature tonight is forward Steve Abbot.

The former TNS man has been ruled out of the game with a slight back injury and will not be risked by Sinton ahead of Saturday's trip to Solihull Moors.

Tonight's match at the New Bucks Head is a 7.30pm kick off.

  • Telford's youth side will face Walsall Wood away in the next round of the FA Youth Cup with the tie taking place in the week beginning September 20.
