Watch: Robinson Crusoe panto comes to Chirk

A treasure hunt, fluorescent fish, spooky skeletons and a handful of ad-libbing combines to make a successful pantomime in Chirk.

Robinson Crusoe was the 22nd production put on by Chirk Pantoholics, and played to a full house every night last week.

The growing panto cast teamed up with Border Counties School of Dance with Jenna, meaning there were so many members of the cast they couldn't all fit on stage at the same time.

Chairwoman Pat Owens said: "This year we had a lot of children in the show which meant the dancers were in two groups, with 30 dancing in one show and 30 dancing in the other three shows. We also had new members which is great to see, along with the golden oldies.

"We would like to thank the people who came for their continued support because without them there would not be a pantomime in Chirk."

Laura Halliwell as Robinson and Serena Young as Polly Perkins led the ensemble through the adventure, which saw them go hunting for Blackbeard the pirate's treasure on a distant island.

They were ably hampered by Jânos Barber as Mrs Crusoe, whose costumes - a frock adorned with fairy lights, a read gown hung with bacon and hot dogs, and a very sparkly sailor suit - almost upstaged the rest of the cast.

The audience was treated to a surprise special guest at the interval as Emma Jones, the nurse from Chirk who appeared on Stars in Their Eyes last month as Miley Cyrus, took to the stage to sing Wrecking Ball and then Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 - with a little help from the dame.

Director Dave Short said: "As a group we always welcome new members and this year is no exception. We have new members in principal roles as well as the chorus and dancers.

"I would like to thank all the principals, chorus and dancers for all their hard work bringing this show to the stage and also to the army of backstage, front of house staff and the any people who have contributes towards this performance in many ways behind the scenes."
