It is very interesting that the new Covid-19 Vaccine from Pfizer/BioNtech which is the first one being used in this country, has been developed by a small German company called BioNtech from Mainz (supported by a research grant from the EU) and it is being manufactured in Puurs, a small town in Belgium. The vaccine is being given firstly given to health workers, care homes and the over 80s.

Am I the only one to see the irony in that a vaccine developed by the EU is firstly being used to protect the age group that mostly voted to leave the EU - all the research indicates that the retired community were the ones who mostly misguidedly voted to leave! To treat Pandemic diseases there needs to be close international co-operation and shared resources and expertise and to cut ourselves off from mainland Europe is a huge mistake and this is a perfect example of how inter-dependent we all are in times of crisis.
