Remain campaign victorious as we were never going to Leave

This country is facing, and has been for a while, its greatest crisis since 1940, when Herr Hermann Goering twinned the entire German aircraft production facilities with the Pas De Calais – and what a riposte from the government!

Theresa May

Possibly one of the greatest abdications of power and influence from Great Britain since February 15, 1942, Singapore.

It should be clear now that there never was any establishment intention of fully leaving the EU.

To the Remain campaign – after recent previous events, it seems likely you may not have to send in many more letters regarding the outcome of the 2016 referendum. It does rather appear you have been victorious.

To the Leave campaign – whatever was voted for in the aforementioned referendum, if this country is now placed into a position where the ‘transition period’ (whatever that means) and final date for leaving the EU can be decided IF AND WHEN, by a medium to large sized city in Belgium – well, under no circumstances whatsoever can that possibly be described as ‘regaining control of sovereignty’, by any measurement of chalk.

There is still time, but precious little time, to put this ‘agreement’ – an agreement which concedes way too much to the EU – into the bin, where it belongs. But rather worryingly there appear to be members of her cabinet that support this ‘agreement’.

Prime Minister Theresa May has now appeared to have reached the Colonel Turner syndrome point (Where Eagles Dare) and seems to have no cards left to play, although to be fair to her, she did not have access to the full 52 in the first place!

Finally, may I be one of the first to congratulate Jeremy Corbyn on his landslide victory at the next general election.

To the Conservative Party, good luck on your reconstruction. Who knows, by the time of its completion we may well have exited the EU. That would indeed be ironic.

Mr D N Grant, Ludlow
