Health chiefs know nothing of real world

“The choice of Telford or Shrewsbury for the county’s emergency medical centre may not follow what people want.”

The statement above by the leader of Shropshire Council confirms that the attitude of both national and local government to the electorate is the same – i.e. they count for nothing.

We have been reading about Future Fit sorting the county’s medical problems now for almost four years and seen little progress to date, it seems to be a fancy title and little else and Councillor Nutting’s article indicates that debate on the subject is bereft of reason, logic and common sense.

Why does he believe that medical officials are best placed to choose the site? What do they know about road conditions, bus routes or train times – move a medical official 20 miles down the road and he is still a medical official – no more – no less.

Logic, reason and common-sense demand that the new centre be just that – CENTRAL! In the middle of the county.

Do not assume that we all have, or access to, a car – I do not. A trip from Oswestry to Shrewsbury Hospital is an hour and a half one way on two buses, extend that journey to Telford and you are talking a full day, three buses, a packed lunch and a sleeping bag.
