Misled over new homes

Here we go again, another ‘sob story’. How many developers are going to continue to get away with withdrawing ‘affordable homes’ from their plans? (Shropshire Star, October 30 – developer to ditch affordable homes.)

It seems this land at Orleton Lane, Wellington, was purchased in 2009 – and now the developers claim it isn’t viable anymore to build ‘affordable homes’ because of market forces. How much longer do we have to go on watching our countryside being destroyed because we are told there are not enough affordable homes? There never will be because the wrong type of house is constantly being built.

It is unfair to local residents, who may have initially objected to the development, but were overruled with the promise of 25 per cent affordable homes for local people.

How on earth are young people ever going to have the opportunity to get on the housing ladder in their own locality?
