I have faith in our youth

With regards to the article on student debt, I notice the media and Philip Dunne have whipped up a fabrication of what Jeremy Corbyn actually said in an NME interview dated June 1.

Jeremy Corbyn

What he did pledge was to abolish tuition fees for new students, that he was aware of student debt and was considering ways of ameliorating this for students – clearly stating different options for consideration.

A YouGov poll reported that out of 3,592, only 17 per cent of 18-to-24-year-olds believed Jeramy Corbyn would wipe the historic debt if elected, and only 14 per cent of 24-to-49-year-olds felt the plan was to clear student debt – it’s not clear if this group heard the interview.

What is really interesting is that the media feel the public are so gullible as to miss that most of the Conservative manifesto has been scrapped and there has been 20 U-turns. And after the election. Most notably the ‘dementia tax’, triple lock and the cap on utility companies which would help so many in our constituency and nationally. Not to mention the ‘quiet’ privatisation of our NHS, social care and public services in general.

Recently, Ipsos MORI data has highlighted an increase in Jeremy Corbyn’s approval rating (44 per cent) which has surpassed Theresa May’s (34 per cent approval) and shows little sign of abating, indicating that the issue of student debt has had little effect on Jeremy Corbyn’s popularity.

The vast majority of young people never believed this to be an issue and realise this is a ‘straw man’ argument to divert attention from the manifold U-turns and broken election pledges.

I for one have faith and trust in our younger generation.
