A mischievous jackdaw who had been dropping sticks down a chimney “for weeks” was apprehended after falling into the house.

The bird was rescued by Emma Lambert, from Nottingham, and her father after birds had attempted to build nests in the chimney breast.

“This cretin has been dropping sticks down our chimney for weeks and today he finally accidentally dropped himself,” wrote Emma on Twitter.

“This is the face of someone who knows they’ve been HAD.”

The image received more than 200,000 likes on Twitter, while Emma added: “don’t worry, he was well enough to scream and bite us and he flew away just fine!”

And while some people were concerned for the bird’s welfare, Emma confirmed it had been well looked after, saying that her family was now aware of chimney guards and let the jackdaw go “within two or three minutes” handling it “only to check it wasn’t injured after the fall, as gently as possible”.

“I’m just happy it wasn’t hurt,” she added. “The few photos I rush took for art reference just made him look like such a criminal caught in the act.”
