What’s the deal with Ivanka Trump’s hot dog and marshmallow dish?

People aren’t quite so sure if they’d want it at their birthday party.

Tuesday saw the sixth birthday party of Ivanka Trump’s daughter Arabella Kushner, and her mother was on hand to share snaps of the festivities.

Yes, that genuinely looks like hot dog skewers with marshmallows on the end – and people have questions.

Safe to say it’s not really taking many people’s fancy.

But hold up before you judge too quickly – it’s unlikely that Ivanka made up this slightly bizarre combination, but instead it seems like she was inspired by a foreign delicacy.

Apparently, hot dogs with marshmallows on the end are a popular dish in the Philippines, often served at children’s parties. They are regularly served skewered into a cabbage, and you can check out the pretty self-explanatory recipe here.

Co-founder of the Filipino Kitchen Natalia Roxas told Delish that in the Philippines, the hot dogs used are redder and saltier, and the marshmallows are sweeter than in the US. She says that it remains popular because it’s quite cheap, adding: “It’s accessible to any socio-economic class.”

So there you have it. Maybe Ivanka’s a huge fan of Filipino food?
