Boy, 14, arrested over death of restaurant owner in Stockport

A second 14-year-old boy has been arrested over the death of a restaurant owner who was hit by his own car following a robbery.

Mohammed Islam, 53, from Hyde, in Tameside, Greater Manchester, was making a food delivery in Romiley, Stockport, on the evening of January 8 when the incident took place.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died two days later

On Wednesday, a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder and conspiracy to commit theft. He remains in custody for questioning.

Another 14-year-old boy appeared in court last week charged with Mr Islam’s murder and various driving offences. He was remanded in custody at a youth detention centre until his next appearance in March.

Mr Islam, also known as Nowab Miah, owned the Marple Spice restaurant in Marple, Stockport.

His family released a statement following the incident saying they were “devastated beyond belief”.

Detective Chief Inspector Liam Boden, of Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team, said: “This was a tragic incident and my thoughts remain with Mohammed’s family and friends as they try to come to terms with their devastating loss.

“Whilst we have made a further arrest, this investigation is still ongoing and I would urge anyone with information about what happened to get in touch with police as soon as you can.”
