A 45-year-old man has been convicted after police found an arsenal of weapons including a crossbow and axes in his car when they stopped him for driving with no MOT.

Gavin Price, of Downsview, Sandown, Isle of Wight, was convicted at Newport Crown Court of 17 charges including possession of an imitation firearm, bladed articles and other offensive weapons.

He was stopped by police in Perowne Way, Sandown, in October 2018 and officers discovered the weapons.

A Hampshire police spokesman said: “Price was noticeably obstructive, and officers found out why when they searched the vehicle.

“Price, who had a lock knife tucked into his belt, kept a crossbow and bolts in the boot of his car.

“As we continued to search the vehicle we found hunting knives, more lock knives, axes and a BB gun.

“As a result, he was arrested and subsequently charged with weapons offences.”
