US President Donald Trump has told how he and the Queen know each other “so well” after his state visit to the UK.

The American leader, speaking in France on the 75th anniversary of D-Day, praised the monarch for being an “incredible lady”.

He was also sat next to the Queen at the D-Day commemorations at Southsea Common in Portsmouth on Wednesday.

He said of the monarch: “I feel I know her so well and she certainly knows me very well right now, but we have a very good relationship also with the United Kingdom.”

Mr Trump added that he found it very interesting spending “so many hours” with the long-reigning head of state while the UK waits to see who will become its next prime minister.

“There’s a lot of question marks as to who’s going to be leading (the Tories) so it was very interesting talking to her (the Queen) and being with her for so many hours actually.

“I feel I know her so well and she certainly knows me very well right now, but we have a very good relationship also with the United Kingdom.”
