Man’s body found near church in East Kilbride

Police are treating the man’s death as unexplained.

Police are investigating after a man’s body was found near a church.

Officers were called to the scene in Riverton Drive, East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, at around 8.40pm on Saturday.

The body was found near to Westwood Baptist Church which cancelled services on Sunday.

The death of the 61-year-old man is being treated as unexplained as investigations continue.

A police spokesman said: “A post mortem will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death which officers are currently treating as unexplained.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

The church posted a message on Facebook to say that both services on Sunday were cancelled due to a police incident.

The statement said: “Due to an ongoing Police incident, the grounds of both the Church and the Community Centre are cordoned off and no access is permitted today.

“As a result both our services today have been cancelled.”
