A teenager has died in a two-car crash in the Highlands.

The 18-year-old woman was driving a white Citroen DS3 that was involved in a collision with a blue Peugeot 207 on the A882 in Caithness at around 8.30pm on Monday.

Police said both cars were travelling east towards Wick near Bridge of Milton at the time of the crash.

Officers are investigating the cause and have appealed for any witnesses.

The woman was travelling alone in the car at the time. The male driver of the Peugeot was uninjured.

The road remains closed while police examine the scene.

Sergeant Donnie Mackinnon said: “Our thoughts are with the young woman’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“We are working to establish the full circumstances of this collision and would ask anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police to contact us.

“We would be keen to hear from anyone who believes they have seen these vehicles on the road prior to the collision or who may have dashcam footage.

“Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 3776 of December 10.”
