Pedestrian in serious condition after hit-and-run

A man is in serious condition in hospital after he was struck by a car in a hit and run.

The 33-year-old was crossing Nitshill Road at its junction with Darnley Mains Road near to Sainsbury’s when he was struck by a dark-coloured Seat Ibiza travelling west along Nitshill Road.

Police said the car is likely to have been damaged but did not stop and carried on westbound towards Nitshill after the incident on Saturday around 4.35pm.

Passers-by helped the injured man until emergency services arrived at the scene.

He was taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where hospital staff describe his condition as serious.

Police are appealing for information about the crash.

Sergeant Kenneth Canavan said: “Nitshill road at Darnley Mains Road is a busy junction for both traffic and pedestrians. I would appeal to anyone who saw the crash happen, or has dashcam footage, to come forward.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who knows of a relatively new dark coloured Seat car that is damaged, possibly missing a door mirror or no longer parked at the usual place.

“Any information on this would greatly assist our investigation.

“Anyone with information can contact the Road Policing Department in Glasgow via 101.  Please quote incident number 2793 of the 1st December when calling.”

Police enquiries are continuing to trace the car and its driver.

The vehicle is thought to be a black or dark-coloured 2018 Seat Ibiza and is likely to have damage to its front driver’s side wing, headlight and bumper.

The driver side wing mirror came off during the collision.

Meanwhile, a man is in a serious condition in hospital after crashing a car into a garden wall in Ayrshire on Sunday night.

The 39-year-old was driving a white Ford Focus when it crashed in Tarbolton, South Ayrshire, at around 10pm.

He was taken to Ayr Hospital and is said to be in a serious but stable condition. There was no-one else in the car at the time.

Sergeant Kevin Blackley said: “The Ford Focus was seen by a number of people in the Tarbolton area during the course of the evening. However, I am appealing for anyone who seen it around the time of the collision to get in touch.

“I would also ask anyone with dash-cam footage or CCTV footage to contact us, as you may have information that can help.”
