A mother who died after allegedly being attacked in a market town centre has been named by police.

Katarzyna Elzbieta Paszek, 39, died in hospital after being left in a “serious condition” following an incident at around 6pm last Thursday evening.

Police have launched a murder inquiry following the woman’s death on Tuesday, and have been questioning two Polish men who were arrested in connection with the assault in the Bridge Street area of Lampeter, West Wales.

A 40-year-old man remains in police custody and a 27-year-old man has been released on bail. Both men are from the Lampeter area.

Two other Polish men aged 31 and 37 who were also arrested have since been released with no further action.

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

The woman’s family released a statement on Wednesday saying they were “distraught” at her death.

The statement said: “As a family we are distraught by our loss of Katarzyna who was 39 and from Lampeter area. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister and aunt and was loved by so many.

“We would now like time to grieve and would ask to be given privacy in which to do so.”

In an appeal on Tuesday Detective Chief Inspector Anthony Evans said: “This is now a murder inquiry and I am appealing to anyone with information that could help the investigation, no matter how insignificant you may feel it is, please get in touch.

“I would like to reassure the public that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”
